Successful testing of modern natural gas plant begins
ENERGIA LIMPIA XXI. Investments in Nicaragua continue to grow and not only social projects in solar energy in rural communities but also high-level commercial investments. The American company New Fortress Energy LLC published a report on the progress of the Central Puerto Sandino Project for the Generation of Electric Power based on Natural Gas. In this regard, the Representative of New Fortress in Nicaragua, Winnie Irizary stated that “the generation, storage and distribution tests began in September in preparation for the official inauguration next month.”
Natural gas has been considered one of the fastest growing energy sector industries in the world and an engine of economic growth. Data from Energía Limpia XXI magazine highlights that it is the first investment of the firm in Central America, prior to this they had had outstanding projects in Mexico and Jamaica.
The plant will be connected to the national grid through the Sandino Substation and its annual contribution will be 2,233 GWh-year. New Fortress Energy LLC, the leading company of this US $ 700 million project, is successfully advancing with 85% of the plant’s execution and it is expected to start operations in November 2021, supplying 300 MW of electricity to the National Interconnected System (SIN ).
