PEPSICO BRAZIL MOVES AHEAD WITH CREATIVE SOLAR TRUCKS

Recently PepsiCo, one of the world’s largest food and beverage companies, and Sunew, a world leader in the production of third-generation solar power technology, have teamed up to develop a pioneering solar power project for distribution trucks. Sunew initiated the installation of Photovoltaic Organic Films (OPV) in ten vehicles in PepsiCo’s distribution fleet, in a pilot project to improve the management of vehicle battery recharging and its lighting system. A report collected by Energía Limpia XXI highlights the importance of this innovative and eco-friendly initiative whose vision is to expand the clean energy solution to the entire fleet of the company.

“PepsiCo is committed to making its logistics chain increasingly sustainable, combining the provision of supplies to consumers with economic and social development, while helping to protect the planet and reduce impacts. This project in alliance with Sunew, along with other initiatives such as the inclusion of CNG and electric powered vehicles, aim to help mitigate our CO2 emissions in the environment, with a global reduction target of 20% by 2030 ”Says Eduardo Sacchi, senior director of supply chain at PepsiCo Brazil.

According to Tiago Alves, CEO of Sunew, “rethinking mobility in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way has become increasingly necessary. PepsiCo’s pioneering spirit in investing in cleaner technology for its distribution fleet is a great example of innovation to build a more sustainable future in Brazil and in the world ”, he analyzes

The objective of the alliance, in addition to promoting energy efficiency in vehicles and optimizing the distribution operation, is to contribute, in the long term, to reducing the emission of greenhouse gases (GHG), since transport is the responsible sector of a large part of the emissions, mainly in large urban centers. In addition to this initiative, PepsiCo announced, at the beginning of June, the purchase of 18 Scania trucks powered by CNG (vehicular natural gas), or biomethane gas, the largest acquisition of vehicles with this technology in the country’s history and, in March this year. year, it acquired 8-ton electric trucks for the distribution of products from its snack division to small and medium-sized companies. All these actions are aimed at expanding the use of clean energy by the company, with the aim of transforming its fleet into 100% sustainable.

The solar energy generated by OPV is already a reality in architectural works and urban furniture. The partnership with PepsiCo addresses one of Sunew’s main business verticals: the mobility market, which uses clean energy in cars, buses, barges, vans and trucks – applications little explored by the solar energy market. As a light, flexible, semi-transparent film, resistant to torsion and vibration and with a high capacity to absorb stray light, OPV stands out as an innovative solution to increase energy efficiency in combustion (conventional), hard and electric vehicles.
